Political Temperature in Belarus

European leaders condemn Belarusian authorities after plane is forced to land and opposition journalist is detained. The leaders are considering sanctions against Belarus. Minutes before the Ryanair flight was to exit Belarusian airspace and cross into Lithuania, its crew received an order from Belarus’s air traffic control to turn around because of possible explosives on board. No bombs were found. The Belarusian opposition said the bomb scare was an excuse to force the plane carrying 123 passengers to land in Belarus so President Alexander Lukashenko can arrest opposition journalist Roman Protasevich.
